While approaching the Isle of Man, the crew encountered engine problems and the pilot elected to make an emergency landing in poor weather conditions when the twin engine aircraft hit a cliff located 1,5 mile from Port Soderick. All five crew members were killed. Crew (4th AFU): WebXT285 crashed at West Freugh in South West Scotland on 5 July 1978. The pilot executed too tight a turn during a dummy attack on Luce Bay range off West Freugh, Dumfries. The aircraft stalled, pitched up, dropped a wing and crashed. The pilot (Mr. A. Love)remained with the aircraft and was killed.
