The prevalence of PBC was reportedly 9.9 per 100,000 individuals in Canterbury, New Zealand, 6 followed by similar observations of 4.75 and 5.6 in South Korea 7 and Hong Kong, 8 respectively (Fig. 1 ). Epidemiologic studies report heterogeneous incidence rates of 0.33 to 5.8 per 100,000 inhabitants per year, and prevalence rates of 1.9 to 40.2 per 100,000 inhabitants. Such figures, in particular the prevalence, have shown some increase in the last decades.
