This happened when 17 activists were sailing on the Phyllis Cormack to try and stop the nuclear testing which was set to take place off the shores of Alaska. In the late 1960s, the U.S. had planned its Cannikin underground nuclear weapon test in the tectonically unstable island of Amchitka in Alaska; the plans raised some concerns of the test triggering earthquakes and causing a tsunami.
